Conference Wide Chester, Michael [1], Chanderbali, Andre [2], Soltis, Pamela [3], Soltis, Douglas [4]. Molecular cytogenetics: metaphase chromosome preparation, fluorescence in situ hybridization, and approaches for examining plant genomes. In this workshop we will prepare metaphase chromosomes from root tips and set up a fluorescent in situ hybridization experiment. Attendees will be able to go through the procedure with roots from their own living plant collections or with materials supplied by the organizers. Day 1 will include a session of presentations in the afternoon covering a range of FISH/GISH applications, such as constructing karyotypes and studying genome-wide changes in diploid and polyploid lineages, integrating next-generation sequencing data into molecular cytogenetics, and using FISH to aid genome assemblies. Day 2 will provide opportunities to inspect slides and capture images from the FISH experiments. Broader Impacts:
